A convergent boundary is when two plates collide (fragments of Lithosphere) . When it's continental v.s. continental it creates mountains and/or volcanoes because they get forced into each other because one will go over the other. an example would be The Himalayas and Mt.st. Helen's.

CONTINENTAL VS CONTINENTAL

When its continental v.s.ocean the ocean creates a trench and/or a subduction zone, where an oceanic plate sinks underneath a continental plate at a convergent boundary.

With ocean V.S. ocean the older plate will subduct underneath the other because of its higher density
